Welcome to Bast's Treasures! Bast's Treasures is a no-kill kitten rescue. We specialize in kittens, newborn to five weeks. We strive to provide a safe, cage-free, loving home environment until they are old enough to be adopted. We also have the occasional older adoptee. Persons interested in adopting are asked to complete an application. Approved applicants are then asked to sign a Contract for Adoption. Terms of the contract include, but are not limited to: provide a safe comfortable environment, all necessary veterinary care, spay or neuter by five months of age if adopted as a kitten, agree not to declaw or let the cat outside except as necessary to transport, and agree to retain sole ownership of the cat. They also agree that if they are no longer able to fulfill their obligation to the cat, that they return him/her to Bast's Treasures for placement in another home. 'A cat is a living being, dependant on a lifelong commitment from you for love, care, and shelter.'
Sadly we are at maximum capacity. This means that we are unable to take in any new babies until we place some of those ready for forever homes. While we do have older kitties for adoption these came to us as unweaned orphans. Please remember we are a rescue for kittens under 6 weeks of age. If you are needing to find a home for an older cat we suggest you look on-line for a no-kill rescue or shelter in your area that takes in adult cats.
April 2012 marked our 25th anniversary. While donations over the years have never been adequate enough to keep us from using substantial portions of our personal income to keep the rescue running, with the poor economy our donations have dwindled to zero. After months of careful thought we have found it necessary to greatly reduce the number of kittens we will be able to take into the rescue in the future. It is unlikely we will ever close completely, however; given our advancing age and the fact that we have spent every dime on our little rescues instead of putting anything aside for our retirement, we can no longer afford to spend $600 - $900 a month for food, medical care and sundries. Thanks to all the wonderful people who have adopted from us in the past and those whose kindness and generosity have allowed us to offer so many kittens a chance for life and love over the last 25 years! |
